St Stephen's Basilica is a short walk north of the river to the west of Andrassy street. In some ways it is reminiscent of a one-quarter size replica of Notre Dame in Paris but it is far more accessible to the public and has unique features all its own. You can climb the spiral stairs (or take the elevator) to the top of the dome and look down from the heights at the larger than life-size statues representing Jesus and the Apostles. The inside of the church is filled with fine art, stained glass and frescoed ceilings. Be sure to bring coins for the toll box that switches on the illumination in the small tabernacle containing the Basilica's most famous relic, St Stephen's hand.
